About the Artist:
Leila Winslade works and lives in Devon, capturing on canvas the essence of farmlife and the wildlife of the surrounding countryside.With a lifelong interest in nature and conservation, she spends many hours studying the wildlife around her. She works in several mediums and styles, including serious oil studies of landscapes and portraits of animals, and other loose watercolours and caricatures.
A passion for foxes in particular, and their antics, has inspired her to create a humorous set of limited edtion prints and cards. Entitled 'Farcical foxes' these images show the opportunist 'Mr Fox' and friends (and enemies) engaged in various activities ranging from Duels to Dinner parties. His very ' foxy' lady friend appears too, sporting anything from swanky hats for Royal Ascot to evening gowns and 'Fox gloves' .
Leila Winslade, who gave up her job as an Event manager in 1999,remains firmly rooted in the countryside, working from her studio on a farm on the fringes of Exmoor. She saw first hand how Foot and Mouth disease devastated the farming community and during that time became a powerful advocate for rural life. Much of her work after that time was a wry reflection on the difficulties that face the countryside and farming communities. Most of the images however, are of a light hearted nature and designed to make you smile.
Farcical Foxes was launched in 2003. Demand has grown rapidly and now the prints and cards are sold throughout the country. Leila is currently working on her new range 'animal farm' , which will be available shortly. This series will run along side 'Farcical foxes' and introduces a wide variety of farm animals .(also look out for an exclusive range of products available through R.A.B.I (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution)
